#HealthyEating : Foods That Always Star In My Kitchen And Why (Part 1)

“MOM, CAN WE please visit Aunt Maureen today?” said No. Child. Ever! Children who have been to my house  before are “wise” enough not to come again because besides being told not to touch anything, climb anywhere, move or even breathe, they will be forced to eat brown rice or Quinoa, lots of vegetables ,use a knife and a fork while sitting upright and chew with their mouth closed and then drink plenty of water.  So you understand why a child who knows better will never ask to come to my house unless they’ve never been there before and have no clue what to expect. My aim is usually to make those little ones adopt  a healthy lifestyle while they are still young but it always backfires on me and instead I get kids who never want to come to Aunt Moe’s house. I  pity my future kids.

Anyway, ever since I started eating clean, there are certain foods that I swear by. I call them “my superfoods” and you will always find these foods in my fridge and “pantry”. And the following are the reasons why…MOE-SUPERFOOD


Broccoli are famous for their cancer-preventing compound glucoraphanin . They also powerful antioxidants and are perfect for bone and heart health.


They are an excellent source of  vitamin C, biotin and vitamin K. They are also a very good source of copper, potassium, manganese, dietary fiber, vitamin A , vitamin B6, folate, niacin, vitamin E, and phosphorus.

**Baby Spinach or any Spinach

Half a cup of spinach provides more than 5 times your daily dose of vitamin K, which helps deal with blood clots and also aids in the building of strong bones.


They contain Vitamin A, calcium and beta carotene which helps in reversing cell damage. They are also a good source of fiber.


They have a wealth of nutrients including Vitamin C, Calcium, Potassium, and pectin as well as Vitamin A precursors.


Besides helping to regulate blood pressure, radish helps fight constipation, coughs and colds and are super for helping in the maintenance of healthy kidneys.


Kiwis are high in vitamin C which actually means everything to your immune system.


Lemons are known to contain strong antibacterial, antiviral and immune boosting powers.

**Ginger and Garlic

Ginger is loaded with nutrients and bioactive compounds that have powerful benefits for your body and brain.

Garlic can help detoxify healthy metals in the body and it contains Vitamins and Minerals such as Manganese, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C and Selenium.

**Green grams and other Lentils…

…are a great source of plant protein as well as a good source of folate.


They are packed with cancer-fighting glucosinolates.


Strawberries are loaded with ellagitannins, phytochemicals which may help stop the growth of cervical and colon cancers.

**Bell peppers

Bell peppers contain several phytochemicals and carotenoids, particularly beta-carotene, which lavish you with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.


…are loaded with protein, fiber, and flavonoids and not forgetting those very important antioxidants that help your arteries stay relaxed and pliable.


Chillies have amazingly high levels of vitamins and minerals including Vitamin C (Ascorbic acid), Vitamin B-6, Vitamin A, Copper, Iron and Potassium among others.
